ThredUp calls a 64 billion dollar future as the pandemic reshapes shopping

ThredUp’s annual Resale Report valued the secondhand apparel market at about 28 billion dollars and projected it would reach 64 billion within five years, according to CNBC coverage. The report landed months into a pandemic that had shuttered stores, squeezed household budgets, and pushed a wave of both selling and bargain-hunting online.

The forecast read as optimistic at the time. It proved conservative. The behaviors the pandemic accelerated, buying secondhand for value and selling to raise cash, did not reverse when stores reopened. They became structural, and the market has beaten that projection since.
